Are You ON and OFF with your Fasting?

Nov 14, 2021

Consistency over Time with our Intermittent Fasting is how we create a lifestyle that will stand the test of time and help use Age Successfully.

How we speak to ourselves about our decisions matters. On and Off again is just another way of saying Starting over and Quitting. This can be very confusing for our brains. Let's break it down in today's Community Conversation. I will also offer you a better phrase to use to help you stay in the game.

The science is there to prove to us that Intermittent Fasting just makes sense as a means to balance out our hormones and reverse the signs of aging. We have a track record of success with the women who are ebbing and flowing their way through this intermittent fasting lifestyle.  So why are there still women who are ON and OFF with intermittent fasting?

I believe it is a MindSet issue.  There is no emotional buy-in when we are treating Intermittent Fasting as a diet and not approaching it like a lifestyle.

When you are OFF:

  • you have not made an emotional commitment to a why that is bigger than weight loss
  • you tend to go to the extreme opposite from what was working for you when you were on
  • your MindSet is Limited/Fixed
    • you tend to use words like:
      • I hope this works
      • I will do this for X amount of time then quit if I don't see results
      • I am afraid it won't work

When you are ON:

  • you believe it might work but are not fully committed
  • ALL IN in  the beginning but fade out when the newness wears off because you had no emotional connection to the lifestyle
  • you are in an Open/Growth MindSet with conditions
    • you are connected to a result in a fixed time frame

If this is resonating with you some things I recommend doing:

If you are a student of mine, go back to your course and FULLY COMMITIntermittent Fasting for Today's Aging Woman Course

Do some MindSet Shift work.

Read some books.

  • Atomic Habits
  • Mindset
  • The Gap and The Gain
  • The High 5 Habit
  • Grit
  • Triggers

You have to change the unconscious decision-making process and bring your decision back to a conscious state.

  1. Pause
  2. Take a deep inhale then exhale
  3. Ask yourself: How will this make me feel right after I make this decision?
  4. Then reconsider your next move.
  5. Rinse and Repeat.

Don't White Knuckle this. Use sticky notes around your house.  Set reminders on your phone or your watch. Have conversations with yourself about what it is you say you really want for yourself.
