Let's Define Calories and Nutrients

Calories are a measure of the energy our body gets from food. Nutrients, on the other hand, are substances found in food that help our body grow, develop, stay healthy, and live a long life.

Why counting calories may not be the best approach

When we focus on counting calories, we can miss the opportunity to pick the best nutrients that will help us achieve our goals. Counting calories can also create a limiting belief that we are not allowed to eat certain things or participate in social events because of caloric limits.

In addition, calorie counting can slow down our metabolism because our body adjusts to the restriction of calories (energy). When we create an environment where our body can turn internally and find the caloric energy that we have in storage we actually have an opportunity to raise our metabolic burn rate.

The benefits of focusing on nutrients

When we focus on nutrients instead of calories, we can create an environment where our body's nutritional needs are met easily and internal healing can take place. This can lead to a rapid reduction in inflammation, fat loss, healing and weight loss.

When we understand the difference between caloric restriction, intermittent fasting, and informed nutritional choices, we can free ourselves from the limiting beliefs that come with counting calories and feeling restricted around food.

This can help us develop an abundance MindSet with the nutrients we choose to provide our body with that will fuel the desire we have for our future self so we can thrive and live a long, healthy life.

Conclusion

Counting calories can create a limiting belief that we are not allowed to eat certain things or participate in social events. This is the Diet Mindset. Instead, focusing on choosing nutrients that will help us thrive for today and our future selves can help us create an Abundance MindSetch which allows us to reach our weight loss goals while also living a long, healthy life. This is the foundation we teach in the Intermittent Fasting for Today's Aging Woman Course and reinforce in the MidLife MindSet Shift Course.
