We talked about two types of estrogen specifically:
Both mimic the action of estrogen in our cells and can alter hormonal activity.
The largest source of Xenoestrogens is from the byproducts of plastics and pesticides.
Problems caused by Xenoestrogen may include;
These byproducts are difficult for the liver to process. They end up accumulating in our fatty tissue.
Phytoestrogens act as estrogen in the body. They can have the same effect as estrogen or can even block the effect of estrogen in the body.
If you are estrogen dominate you should avoid phytoestrogens as they can create a more estrogen dominate situation in your body. If you are suffering from a thyroid imbalance it is also advised to avoid phytoestrogens as they have been shown to inhibit the conversion of T4 to the active T3. If your body is a low estrogen producer then phytoestrogens may not be an issue for you.
Food made from soybeans have some of the highest levels of phytoestrogens.
We stopped using Keurig K-Cup and went back to a more traditional coffee maker. The coffee maker we use now is the Cuisinart Grind & Brew and we love it. We have also upgraded our coffee beans to the BulletProof Brand of whole coffee beans.
We have also switched out all of our food storage containers to glass. These are the Pyrex Snapware glass food storage containers. We like the square and rectangular storage containers for the refrigerator. They are excellent space savers for both the refrigerator and the cabinet.
We no longer drink our water out of plastic water bottles. We either drink out of glass water bottles (The Mountain Valley, San Pelligrino) or reusable insulated water bottles. These are my favorite reusable insulated water bottles. The kids take these to school as well. There are a lot of color and size options available. I use the 25 ounce bottle for my water. The 12 ounce size is perfect for coffee on the go and it will stay hot for up to 12 hours. You can't beat that.
